My Christmas break project was refurbishing a hutch. I love painting furniture and was excited to take on a new project! It came with a few problems along the way, but nothing I couldn’t fix!

Originally the hutch was … a lot, but I could see the potential. I wanted to paint a nice neutral color, so I went with Sugar Beige from Dutch Boy.

The first thing I did was take out all the drawers and take the doors off. I then sanded everything and put some tape and paper in the glass doors.
One of the challenges I ran into was reusing the hinges. Their not really seen when it’s all put back together, but they look so nice at when they’re clean!
I’ve never cleaned hinges before so I first boiled some water and vinegar and plopped them in for 30 minutes. Then I took some steel wool and got everything else off.

Another problem I ran into were the pulls I bought for the hutch. I bought 12 pulls for the drawers and doors. But my bigger drawers measured a little bigger than the others. I didn’t want to go buy more pulls so I decided to change the location of them. There were 2 pulls on each drawer, so I filled in the old holes and put 1 pull on each drawer in the middle.

The hutch was very unique because it had a pull out desk in the top. The first “drawer” has a drop top and slots for mail.

Overall this project was a lot of fun! I learned a lot of new things and I’m glad I had the opportunity to refinish it!
