I got to take some amazing classes at UNI, but one of my favorites was printmaking. It was a class that challenged my creativity a lot. I had the opportunity to learn how to etch, woodcut and screen-printing.
This is also why I love UNI, I got to have some amazing opportunities and learn new things I never thought I would. I took Printmaking I in Spring 2021 and Printmaking II in Fall 2021. These projects are from Printmaking II.

This is my etching project. I had never etched before, and I didn’t even know how. It was a fun process, but it took a long time!
The project was Poetic Explosion. So we took an image where an object is “taken-apart” and then we put something in it or switch something out that doesn’t fit with the rest.
Our next project was an independent project. I chose to make a wood cut. We did a few woodcuts in Printmaking I, so I was familiar with the process.
I love plants and I wanted to make something with them. During class critique someone made the comment about how it looks like someone in college who buys plants. With the busy-ness of college we often buy plants and then forget about them, and they die.

Structure vs Gesture screen-printing. The first image is the structure then I made some gestures to put behind the structure. This was a fun project because we started learning about screen printing and how it worked.
My gesture screen was fun to print. I chose 2 colors – red and orange – and wanted the gesture to have a different color under each circle.

Our final project was an independent project as well. This screen-print was my favorite. I printed the images on a big printer our teacher has – which is often used for the Print III or B.F.A. students.
I chose the saying from Tik Tok, “How am I supposed to live laugh love in these conditions.”
I had 5 screens for this project. I decided to use 22 x 30 inch paper and the screens are smaller than that. So it was a bit of a challenge because I had to wait for my papers to dry or I had to wait to clean a screen.
This project was one of my favorites, I found screen printing so much fun! I loved how I made the screens and got to transfer my images over.
